GEOFF POWER’S GREAT GATSBY ORCHESTRA

A young band playing the hot dance band music of the 1920's, novelty songs and hot jazz as played by Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Duke Ellington etc. The Orchestra has performed to great acclaim at various venues such as the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music, Burwood RSL and at the Newcastle Jazz Festival, has started a regular concert series at Club Ashfield, plays regularly for the Central Coast Jazz League, Newcastle Jazz Club, Canberra Jazz Club, the Austrian Club Sydney and the Sydney Jazz Club, and has played live broadcasts on 102.5FM.

Their recent CD, “Shake That Thing” regularly receives airplay on FM stations around Australia, and received rave reviews in the US publication The Syncopated Times.

Geoff Power is one of Australia’s finest Traditional Jazz musicians, having played with musicians of the calibre of Bob Barnard, Tom Baker, James Morrison, Don Burrows, Paul Furniss, The New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra, The Café Society Orchestra, The Mell-O-Tones and many others. He has appeared as a featured soloist at festivals and jazz clubs throughout Australia, Europe and the USA.

His debut CD, “Aspects Of Power’, was nominated for an Australian Recording Industry Award (ARIA) in 2000 under the

“Best Jazz Album” category. His band, Geoff Power’s Classic Jazz, appeared at the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival in Davenport, Iowa, Bix’s birthplace, in July 2005. Geoff is also greatly interested in jazz education, and has many years’ experience working with school jazz bands and musicians.
